Discover the Flegrei fields and their glorious past
The Flegrei fields extend from the soft hill of Posillipo as far as the promontory of Cuma.
These beautiful and mysterious places have a complex natural scenery. Among extinct craters, lakes, woods, coast and sea the humans lived since the night of times.
Cuma was the first colony of the Great Greek founded on the continent. There during Roman times appears for the first time the term: “Italia”. A sentence of the poet Ovid says: the land named Itala (Italia) was the Great Greek.
In this area the Greek and Roman civilizations merged and we can say that this event started the occidental civilization. Baia and Pozzuoli were preferred by the Romans for the climate, thermal hot water and ground fertility.
That’s why during the empire the Romans built there luxurious villas, amphitheaters and thermal baths whose ruins are still visible. These places were so important that they became the oriental gate of the Roman empire.
In the eighteenth century famous European poets, artists and intellectuals such as Mozart and Goethe visited this area searching for the glory of this past.
Like them you can follow the same route and be seduced and fascinated by the beauty of these mythical and legendary places.

Grazie Dario
